About Pensora
Pensora is a set of free retirement calculators — Required Minimum Distributions, Social Security claiming ages, break-even analysis, and retirement countdowns — built by Openverse. We built it because most RMD and Social Security calculators either bury the math behind a sign-up wall or don't cite where their numbers come from. Ours don't do either: no account is required to use a calculator, and every page that does math links to the government source it's built from.
How the calculations are built
Each calculator is a pure function derived directly from a primary source — IRS Publication 590-B for RMD tables, ssa.gov's published claiming-age formulas for Social Security, and the equivalent official sources for the UK and Canada calculators. The source citations for each page are listed in that page's "Sources & methodology" panel, along with the "last reviewed" date and the specific assumptions the calculation makes.
The site's calculation code is covered by an automated test suite that checks results against published SSA and IRS examples (and the equivalent gov.uk sources for the UK calculators) — for instance, that a $2,000 benefit at full retirement age 67 is reduced to exactly 70% at age 62, matching SSA's own published example. We can't promise the tests catch everything, but the core formulas are checked against official numbers, not re-derived from third-party articles.
What Pensora is not
Pensora is an independent website and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Social Security Administration, the IRS, HM Revenue & Customs, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, or any government agency. Every calculator is for educational purposes only — it is not financial, tax, or legal advice, and it does not replace your own SSA earnings statement or a licensed advisor. Your inputs stay in your browser; we never ask for a Social Security number, National Insurance number, or bank details.
