How the payment date is set
Both CPP and OAS pay out on the third-last banking day of the month — a fixed rule Service Canada applies every month, so the 2026 dates above are known in advance rather than announced individually. "Banking day" means a weekday; when the third-last weekday would land awkwardly around a long weekend the schedule still follows the same count-back rule.
Direct deposit vs. cheque
Direct deposit is faster and more reliable: funds usually land in your account on the scheduled date shown above. A mailed cheque follows the same payment date but then depends on Canada Post, so it can take several additional business days to arrive — and longer around holidays. You can switch to direct deposit any time through your My Service Canada Account or by phone with Service Canada.
Receiving both CPP and OAS

When is the next OAS payment date?
OAS payments are made monthly, on the third-last banking day of the month. Use the official 2026 table above; the exact date depends on today's date and your bank's posting time.
Are OAS and CPP paid on the same day?
Yes. In 2026, the Government of Canada schedule lists CPP and OAS payments on the same dates each month — they still arrive as two separate deposits (or two separate cheques) if you receive both.
Why is my payment late?
Direct deposit usually lands on the scheduled date, but your bank’s own processing can add a business day or two. A mailed cheque can take longer, especially around holidays. If a payment is more than a few business days late, check your My Service Canada Account or contact Service Canada — Pensora cannot view or change your benefit account.
When does my first OAS payment arrive?
Your first payment is not tied to this monthly calendar — it arrives roughly 1–3 months after Service Canada approves your application, then future payments follow the standard schedule shown above.
Is OAS taxed at the source?
OAS counts as taxable income. Service Canada only withholds tax if you specifically request voluntary tax deduction; otherwise you’re responsible for the tax owed, often through quarterly instalments.
